About The Position

The Draftsman – Art & Set Design translates creative concepts into precise technical drawings that enable safe, efficient, and accurate set construction. This role bridges creative vision and physical execution by producing construction-ready plans, elevations, sections, and detailing packages for production teams. Success in this role ensures builds are executed to specification, within budget, and aligned to creative direction while minimizing rework and production risk.

Requirements

• 4+ years of drafting experience in set design, production design, architecture, or related field
• Proficiency in drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or similar)
• Demonstrated ability to convert creative concepts into technical plans
• Strong understanding of construction methods and materials
• Ability to manage multiple projects with shifting deadlines

Nice To Haves

• Experience in film, television, live events, or experiential builds
• Familiarity with scenic fabrication workflows
• Basic 3D modeling skills
• Knowledge of structural and safety best practices

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed technical drawings for sets, stages, and scenic builds
• Translate concept art and production designs into construction documents
• Draft floor plans, elevations, sections, and 3D views as required
• Annotate materials, dimensions, finishes, and fabrication notes
• Collaborate with our Art Directors, Production Designers, and Fabricators
• Revise drawings and plans based on feedback and evolving production needs
• Ensure drawings align with safety, code, and structural considerations
• Maintain organized file structures and version control
• Support on-site clarification during construction as needed
• Identify and escalate feasibility or build risks early
