About The Position

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree, technical diploma, or bachelor’s in Drafting, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience using AutoCAD to produce detailed assembly, structural, and fabrication drawings.
  • Experience preparing drawings for steel structures, rack systems, or similar industrial/mechanical systems (storage racking experience strongly preferred).
  • Strong understanding of structural and fabrication drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, materials, and connection details.
  • Ability to read and interpret design sketches, and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with Bills of Materials (BOMs) and experience checking consistency between drawings and BOMs.
  • Knowledge of basic steel fabrication and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience coordinating with Project Engineers and incorporating design changes accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies or errors in drawings and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple drawing packages and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with standard drafting practices, drawing standards, and file management/version control.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working both independently and as part of a project team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with warehouse racking systems, ASRS, or automated material handling systems.
  • Familiarity with RMI / MH16.1 or similar racking standards.
  • Exposure to modeling software (e.g., Inventor, SolidWorks) for coordination or reference.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed assembly drawings for racking systems using AutoCAD, including layouts, elevations, sections, and connection details.
  • Prepare complete structural drawing sets in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, and company standards.
  • Develop accurate fabrication drawings for rack components, including dimensions, tolerances, materials, and finishes using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Coordinate closely with Project Engineers to translate engineering designs, calculations, and concepts into clear, constructible drawings.
  • Revise and update drawings based on engineering changes, field feedback, and project requirements.
  • Verify that Bills of Materials (BOMs) fully match the drawings and ensure drawings are consistent with approved BOMs.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between drawings, BOMs, and design inputs, and communicate issues promptly to the engineering team.
  • Respond to and help clarify technical questions from assembly and fabrication teams, providing drawing clarifications as needed.
  • Ensure drawings are prepared to support efficient fabrication, assembly, and installation of rack systems.
  • Maintain organized drawing files, version control, and documentation in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Support project schedules by delivering drawings on time and coordinating priorities with engineers and project managers.
  • Assist with continuous improvement of drafting standards, templates, and best practices for racking systems.
  • Ensure that project information and drawings are properly stored in accordance with engineering guidelines.
  • Follow the correct approval flow in compliance with engineering guidelines.
  • Share technical knowledge with engineering team members.
  • Provide training and support to peers.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of CAD software.
  • Maintain and continuously improve relevant technical knowledge and skills.
