About The Position

Drafter I: Performs basic design work and calculations. Performs field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Drafter II: Performs intermediate design work and calculations; performs field work; uses automated systems and learns specialized procedures. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer and registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. A Day in the life of a Drafter I or II may include: - Drafting designs - Field investigation - Plan review - Creating funding proposals - Providing status updates on projects with TxDOT Leadership - Meeting with subject matter experts on plans and designs - Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Drafter I: Basic roadway design
  • Drafter I: Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
  • Drafter I: Higher mathematics
  • Drafter I: Performing basic design and drafting
  • Drafter I: Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Drafter I: Follow verbal and written instructions
  • Drafter II: Advanced and specialized design/drafting procedures
  • Drafter II: Interactive graphic and design information systems
  • Drafter II: Performing intermediate drafting
  • Drafter II: Training in a classroom, office, or field environment
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions.
  • Required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
