This entry-level Drafter role sits directly within the Digital Design department and supports our ongoing Digital Standards & Modernization initiative. In this position, you will transform sketches, markups, and field information into clear, accurate CAD drawings that align with our department’s evolving digital standards. Day to day, you will work primarily in AutoCAD to update, clean up, and standardize drawings, so they are consistent, easy to understand, and ready for use by engineers, designers, and other team members across MSB. You will also help convert legacy drawings to our current digital templates and contribute to improving how our department delivers work to internal and external clients. This is an entry-level role intended for candidates with 1–2 years of drafting experience who want to grow within a structured digital design environment.

  • Produce clear, accurate CAD drawings from sketches, photos, scanned images, redlined drawings, and other reference documents using AutoCAD, following client standards or MSB Digital Design standards.
  • Support the department’s digital standardization initiative by: Converting legacy drawings to current Digital Design templates and standards. Updating existing drawings to reflect approved layer, text, and block standards. Assisting with the build-out and maintenance of our standardized CAD block and detail libraries.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with Engineers, Designers, Drafters, and other technical staff within the Digital Design department to ensure drawings meet project requirements and initiative milestones.
  • Review your own work in detail for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with client-specific and MSB Digital Design standards before submitting for review.
  • Incorporate feedback from the Digital Design Manager and project team members to continuously improve drawing quality and alignment with department initiatives.
  • Assist in documenting and following Digital Design workflows, checklists, and naming conventions that support consistent project delivery.
  • Help track and prioritize drawing updates assigned as part of the department’s digital modernization initiative.
  • Support other Digital Design tasks, as assigned, to ensure client satisfaction and departmental success.
  • Other duties may be assigned, as needed, to support the Digital Design department, its strategic initiatives, and overall company goals.
  • Associate degree from a two-year college or technical school in Drafting, Design Technology, or a related field, required.
  • 1–2 years of related drafting experience and/or training using AutoCAD in a professional or internship setting, required.
  • Ability to read and interpret simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, and documents such as safety rules and policies manuals.
  • Effective communication skills to write simple correspondence.
  • Capacity to efficiently present information in one-on-one and small group settings to other employees of the organization.
  • Capability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Aptitude to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense of understanding to carry out detailed, but straightforward, written or oral instructions.
  • Capacity to follow established Digital Design procedures and standards while recognizing when to ask questions or escalate issues.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and the ability to create, modify, and organize drawings using layers, blocks, layouts, and basic annotation tools.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams) for daily communication, tracking assignments, and coordinating with the broader project team.
  • Willingness to learn and use the Unanet ERP system (or similar project/accounting platforms) for time entry, basic project information, and other department workflows.
  • Experience working with drawing standards, templates, or libraries is preferred, especially in support of departmental or company-wide initiatives.
