The Infrastructure Architect II at the Texas Department of Public Safety is responsible for overseeing and conducting advanced computer systems analysis work. This role involves directing the planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of IT security measures, as well as managing enterprise-level strategies and technical direction. The position requires a high level of initiative and independent judgment, with a focus on improving infrastructure systems and ensuring optimal solutions for complex operational problems.

  • Direct the planning, design, development, implementation, support, and maintenance of information technology security measures.
  • Oversee and participate in the development and execution of enterprise-level strategies and technical direction.
  • Prepare reports that include study findings, recommendations, and instructions for proposed system implementations.
  • Oversee projects that require coordination across functional agency systems and other state entities.
  • Prepare charts, diagrams, and tables depicting present and proposed systems in terms of costs and benefits.
  • Plan and schedule studies and systems implementation, preparing IT planning and justification.
  • Identify system requirements and develop function design specifications to meet those requirements.
  • Conduct training of staff prior to the implementation of technical systems and provide guidance during the implementation process.
  • Conduct tests and diagnose systems to ensure critical requirements are met.
  • Develop agency computer operations and management information system plans and budget.
  • Assist with developing and implementing strategic planning actions and policy decisions related to the agency's systems.
  • Evaluate network technologies for potential acquisition and direct the evaluation of hardware and software resources.
  • Determine operational, technical, and support requirements for agency infrastructure systems.
  • Produce technically excellent solutions architecture aligned with industry best practices.
  • Provide technical direction and frameworks to meet business needs and update standards and guidelines.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years' experience in the design and implementation of Infrastructure architecture systems.
  • Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Certification preferred.
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) preferred but not required.
  • Must possess a valid driver license from the state of residence.
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory design and Unix/Linux systems.
  • Knowledge of TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Competitive salary range of $9,000 - $11,250 per month.
  • Regular full-time employment with a standard 40-hour work week.
