About The Position

The Associate Director of MEP at the Texas Department of Public Safety is responsible for overseeing the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing operations and projects related to state facilities. This senior-level managerial role involves strategic planning, directing staff, and ensuring compliance with regulations to maintain safe and efficient physical buildings for employees and citizens. The position requires strong leadership, project management skills, and the ability to implement continuous improvement initiatives across statewide facilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; four-year degree in engineering or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of progressively responsible work experience in MEP facilities operations.
  • At least four years of managerial/supervisory experience in MEP trades preferred.
  • Valid driver license from state of residence required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of MEP equipment and systems, including HVAC and plumbing codes.
  • Knowledge of project management theories and practices applicable to mid- and large-scope projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in commercial construction and office building maintenance.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to facilities operations.
  • Ability to work with blueprints and sketches.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, develop, implement and evaluate activities of staff in the Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing (MEP) section.
  • Oversee the establishment of goals, priorities, and objectives consistent with the agency's strategic plan.
  • Monitor and control the MEP statewide program, maximizing efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance and renovation programs.
  • Implement programs focusing on continuous process improvement and oversee direct-digital-control (DDC) systems.
  • Direct MEP staff and subcontractors to complete work orders for maintenance and repairs.
  • Review and approve inspection reports, invoices, and progress of contracts.
  • Establish and approve requirements for MEP maintenance contracts and expenditures.
  • Process documentation packages for maintenance requests and inspections.
  • Develop designs, standards, specifications, and cost estimates for MEP projects.
  • Create emergency action plans and determine methods of repair work.
  • Develop and review MEP maintenance and project budgets.
  • Analyze business processes for inefficiencies and develop performance metrics.
  • Coordinate statewide facilities and MEP policies and monitor compliance.
  • Review results of investigations and audits to provide guidance.
  • Represent the agency at meetings and serve as a liaison with customers and officials.
  • Plan, assign, and supervise the work of others, including during emergencies.
