About The Position

The Temporary License Specialist II position at the Texas Department of Public Safety involves performing licensing and permitting work, including reviewing applications, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing customer service. This role requires interaction with the public, administration of driver license tests, and the use of various computer systems to process applications. The position is temporary, ending on August 31, 2025, or until funding is depleted, and may require weekend work and extended hours.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent, or currently enrolled in high school.
  • Minimum of one year of general office, volunteer, or customer service experience.
  • Valid Texas driver license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Cash handling experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS regulations and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and deal with the general public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Answer general questions pertaining to applications for various types of driver licenses and identification cards.
  • Receive and review license and permit applications, revisions, and renewals.
  • Determine the legal needs and requirements of driver license and identification card applicants.
  • Screen application forms to ensure applicant qualification.
  • Make and interpret inquiries to determine applicants' eligibility for licensing.
  • Input license and permit applications, payments, and required technical data into appropriate systems.
  • Collect appropriate license fees and prepare receipts; ensure accountability for received monies.
  • Capture photographs, signatures, and fingerprints of applicants.
  • Issue licenses and permits, and reimburse fees to denied applicants.
  • Check accuracy of original, renewal, and duplicate license applications and other documents.
  • Administer oral, written, or other tests to license and permit applicants.
  • Provide administrative and technical assistance related to license and permit requirements to the public and agency staff.
  • Approve applications for licenses and permits based on state regulations and agency policies.
  • May travel to work in other Driver License Offices and/or for training.
