About The Position

The Patient Access Representative processes patient preadmission and admission demographic and insurance data, entering information into the hospital computer system. This role maintains quality control for each preadmission and admission to ensure the accuracy of information and acts as a liaison between patients, financial counselors, and hospital patient accounting. The representative ensures that all state, federal, and MUSC policies and procedures are followed. The position functions in the Patient Admissions Department as well as Patient Bedside, including but not limited to the Emergency Department, Inpatient Units, ICU, Observation, Nursery, and Pre-and Post Operative Unit. The representative is responsible for collecting all mandatory documents for the Admissions Department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • 1 year of customer service experience.
  • Ability to interpret and apply financial procedures and regulations preferred.
  • Previous experience with hospital information systems or word processing preferred.
  • Must pass typing exam with a minimum score of 35 wpm.
