About The Position

We are seeking a Laboratory Scientist who will play a central role in developing, evaluating, and optimizing chemical products used in refinery operations. This position supports both laboratory and field focused initiatives, ensuring that new and existing formulations deliver reliable performance in demanding process environments. The role requires strong technical expertise, hands-on analytical skills, and the ability to translate laboratory findings into actionable recommendations for refinery customers. This role is based at our Woodlands Laboratory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or a related field highly preferred; advanced degrees (Master’s or Ph.D.) are a plus.
  • At least 15 years of relevant industry experience in refinery process chemicals.
  • Demonstrated history of strong performance and results.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Communication: Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills are essential, with an emphasis on clear and concise communication.
  • Reporting Proficiency: Requires the ability to create clear, concise reports using standard computer tools.
  • Workflow Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and work cross‑functionally.
  • Work Ethic: Be dependable, trustworthy, truthful, and credible in the workplace in a customer-focused environment.
  • Display a sincere desire to provide service or assistance, follow instructions, and take responsibility for your own actions.
  • Show a commitment to doing the best job possible.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Safety glasses, goggles, etc.

  • Fuel Additives experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work in laboratory environment wherein chemical and hydrocarbon odors may be present
  • Design, develop, and optimize chemical formulations for refinery applications (e.g., demulsifiers, fouling control, corrosion inhibition, antifoams, fuel additives, process aids).
  • Conduct bench‑scale experiments to evaluate chemical mechanisms, compatibility, and stability.
  • Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and commercial teams to transition new products from concept to commercialization.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of formulation work, experimental design, and development progress.
  • Run and maintain an assortment of laboratory equipment
  • Perform laboratory testing to assess product performance under simulated refinery conditions (e.g., temperature, pressure, varying feedstock qualities).
  • Conduct root‑cause investigations for product failures or performance deviations.
  • Compare new formulations against benchmarks to identify performance advantages.
  • Interpret laboratory results to provide technical recommendations for refinery process improvement.
  • Summarize and present technical findings supported by data internally and externally in customer meetings and industry conferences.
  • Support field trials, product dosing optimization, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Analyze experimental data using statistical tools and modeling techniques.
  • Develop test methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for product evaluation.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Follow all laboratory safety protocols and refinery site requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory, and industry standards (e.g., ASTM, API).
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements (REACH, TSCA, SDS authoring).
  • Participate in audits, quality reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency with analytical instrumentation, troubleshooting, and method development.
  • Ability to interpret data from advanced analytical techniques to troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Knowledge of chemical interactions affecting corrosion, fouling, emulsion stability, and process efficiency.
  • Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking abilities.
  • Comply with all Federal, State, and Local laws.
  • Have fluency in reading, writing, and speaking in English.
  • Adhere to Company guidelines, policies, and procedures as described in the Company handbook.
  • Adhere to Company’s Drug and Alcohol policy and agree to submit to random drug testing as a condition of employment.
