Department OBGYN - CNM Job Summary A birth/postpartum doula is a person trained to support families during childbirth and is an integral member of the inpatient birth team. Doulas provide continuous presence, information, emotional support, and physical comfort to a birthing person before, during, and immediately after childbirth. Doula care extends into the postpartum period, supporting breastfeeding and emotional and physical recovery from childbirth. Essential Functions: Partner with members of the inpatient birth team to identify patients amenable to doula care and services on the labor and delivery and postpartum units (10%) Model and encourage effective communication and support informed decision making (20%) Provide non-medical comfort techniques for labor, including but not limited to positioning and movement, comforting touch, visualization, breathing techniques, affirmation, and aromatherapy (30%) Support and assist breastfeeding initiation (5%) Answer general questions about and assist with non-medical infant care (10%) Support the family and listen as they process their birth experience (10%) Seek to contribute to a culturally aligned, respectful, and positive birthing and postpartum experience (10%) Provide support to the birthing person’s support partner and/or family (5%)
