About The Position

The Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a 100%-time Double Bass Teaching Faculty. This position is a non-tenure track one-year temporary position with the possibility of a one-year renewal, or it may become a permanent position based on funding and departmental need. This appointment will begin in the fall semester of 2026, with a start date of August 17, 2026. Preference will be given to candidates with experience of successful teaching at the advanced level and significant experience in the field of double bass performance. We seek a colleague who will join a nationally renowned faculty and staff and contribute to our program through teaching courses that develop and support a wide range of musical endeavors. The instructor in this position will be expected to perform the following duties: Instruction: Teach students in the double bass studio, which will include jazz and classical students and may include Doctoral students and/or dissertators. Teach a weekly studio class and one jazz area studio class annually Teach jazz and/or classical ensembles each semester Teach classes as workload allows and as assigned Hold regular office hours Department/Area Responsibilities: Attend all departmental and area meetings as required Participate in recruitment activities for the for the double bass classical/jazz studio Participate in undergraduate juries for the string and jazz areas Attend graduate and undergraduate audition days Participate in ensemble placement auditions Supervise teaching assistants Key Job Responsibilities: Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading Assists in developing techniques and/or model programs for carrying out instructional goals in disciplinary area and may help identify ways in which new techniques could be of assistance Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy Supervises the day to day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements Department: College of Letters & Science, Mead Witter School of Music The Mead Witter School of Music is a community of musicians, scholars, and teachers. Requirements

• Strong commitment to teaching excellence at undergraduate, master's, doctoral and dissertator levels
• One year of instructional experience at a college or university
• Enthusiasm for innovative, collaborative learning environments
• Evidence of an emerging national performance career
• Evidence of excellence in both jazz and classical genres
• Experience recruiting for a double bass studio at the college level.
