About The Position

The Medical Dosimetrist is responsible for developing and generating accurate, high-quality treatment plans based on physician prescriptions. This includes utilizing a variety of technologies and planning techniques such as 3D conformal, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, and particle therapy, when applicable. The dosimetrist works collaboratively with the Radiation Oncologist and Physicist to ensure optimal dose distribution and patient safety. The medical dosimetrist is responsible for completing image fusions, contouring, plan development, and plan evaluation. The role requires a strong understanding of anatomical structures, radiation physics, and computer-based planning systems, as well as the ability to interpret clinical protocols. The dosimetrist is expected to apply mathematical, spatial, and analytical reasoning in a dynamic clinical setting, often participating in treatment plan quality assurance, patient setup consultations, and plan implementation coordination with radiation therapists. This vacancy is not eligible for sponsorship, and we will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Radiation Therapy, Radiation Sciences, Radiography, Physical Sciences, Physics, or Medical Physics.
  • Graduation from a hospital or university JRCERT accredited Dosimetry Program, with classroom and clinical curriculum of twelve months duration or longer.
  • To maintain this position with Mayo Clinic any employee that does not enter this position credentialed by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board as a "Certified Medical Dosimetrist" (CMD) must successfully pass this certification exam no later than the end of their first year of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year of on-the-job experience in Medical Dosimetry under the direct supervision of a certified Medical Dosimetrist, Medical Physicist and Radiation Oncologist is preferred.
  • Two years of experience as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) is preferred.
  • 6 months of on the job training may be necessary to allow a new employee to become proficient with Mayo Clinic equipment and procedures.
  • Good interpersonal skills are necessary.
