About The Position

The Medical Dosimetrist works as a member of the Radiation Oncology team under the direction of the Medical Director and department Radiation Oncologists, and under the guidance of a Medical Physicist. This role involves accurately planning and calculating external beam treatments for patients. The Medical Dosimetrist is responsible for professional development, practicing within the scope of care defined by law, and acting as a patient advocate for safe care, including participation in performance improvement activities. The planning of treatments must align with the organization's and department's mission, vision, values, and philosophies. Kettering Health is a not-for-profit system comprising 14 medical centers and over 120 outpatient facilities in southwest Ohio, dedicated to promoting and restoring health with a top priority on patient safety and providing integrated, exceptional healthcare.

Requirements

  • Must be board certified in Medical Dosimetry by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB), or be board eligible with intent to pursue certification.
  • BLS certification.
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Cognitive ability to assess situational needs and problem solve.
  • Must work in a team environment with all staff and physicians.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of experience.
  • ARRT Certification in Radiation Therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Works as a member of the Radiation Oncology team under the direction of the Medical Director and the department Radiation Oncologists.
  • Accurately plans and calculates external beam treatments of patient under the guidance of a Medical Physicist.
  • Responsible for his/her own professional development and practices within the scope of care defined by law.
  • Utilizing organizational resources acts as a patient advocate for safe care, including participation in performance improvement activities.
  • Ensures the planning of treatments for radiation oncology patients reflects the mission, vision, values, and philosophies of the organization and the department.
  • Accurately and efficiently produce quality treatment plans for a wide variety of sites utilizing external beam 3D, IMRT, SBRT, SRT, and SRS techniques.
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving of patient setups during simulation and throughout the patients’ treatment course.
  • Collaborates with physicists and physicians for patient care.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to assist in solving complex treatment scenarios such as re-treatments.
  • Demonstrates and maintains an understanding of tools and resources used to complete work efficiently and effectively.
  • Assist in developing policies and procedures relating to dosimetry functions and patient care within the department.
