About The Position

This position is responsible for the management, development, and promotion of the Museum of Florida History’s statewide Traveling Exhibits Program (TREX). This initiative provides low-cost prefabricated exhibits to institutions across Florida, promoting the state’s history and the Museum’s collections. Duties include: Oversees the Traveling Exhibits Program. This may include but is not limited to: Scheduling deliveries and arranging transportation Corresponding with potential clients Arranging loan agreements and insurance Preparing and monitoring budgets Conducting maintenance and repairs of TREX exhibits Coordinates with supervisors, curators, designers and educators, in planning the design and construction of exhibits and interpretive material. Participates in exhibition planning teams updating and preparing new and existing TREX exhibits. Develops promotional and interpretative materials to highlight the TREX program and the Museum’s events. Assists with the planning and installation of Department of State exhibits as needed in the Design and Fabrication Section. Performs other work related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time, paid relevant work experience in carpentry, construction, art, design or a closely related field OR a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • At least six months experience managing projects, including payment and tracking of invoices, and working with clients.
  • At least six months experience with woodworking, cabinetry, carpentry, or another type of fabrication.
  • Ability to lift, move, carry, and push items weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to maintain professional and effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and members of the public.
  • Ability to travel and work outdoors when required.
  • Ability to work in difficult conditions (e.g. heat, cold, dust, noise)
  • Strong computer literacy focused on the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and Adobe.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders to a height of 10’.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art, Art History, Museum Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Knowledge of design and construction of museum exhibits.
  • Knowledge of art and/or artifact handling.
  • Experience in museum exhibit preparation.
  • Experience in graphic design and production.
