About The Position

The DOPL Pharmacy Investigator position is a critical role within the Utah Department of Commerce, Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL), aimed at protecting the public from unethical practices in the pharmacy industry. This position involves conducting investigations and inspections, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and maintaining detailed records. The role requires a licensed pharmacist or pharmacy technician with strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently while managing a caseload of moderately complex cases.

Requirements

  • Prior experience conducting fair and unbiased investigations/inspections.
  • Experience working in the pharmacy industry.
  • Hold at least a pharmacy technician license in good standing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Sterile Compounding.
  • Knowledge of the Utah Pharmacy Practice Act.
  • Knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations Title 21.
  • Hold pharmacist license in good standing.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex data and draw logical conclusions.
  • Proficiency in case management software and other database systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise reports and documents, and organize information efficiently.
  • Strong organizational skills and self-management.

Responsibilities

  • Protecting the public from incompetent, negligent, unethical, and criminal practices of those licensed by DOPL and those unlicensed.
  • Conducting investigations and inspections into allegations of inappropriate activities, rules infractions, or illegal actions.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
  • Receiving, researching, and responding to incoming questions or complaints; providing information, explaining policy and procedures, and/or facilitating a resolution.
  • Maintaining detailed inspection or investigation records, preparing reports, and attending to other related administrative requirements.
  • Acting as an expert witness and giving testimony and/or recommendations in court cases and/or hearings.
  • Gathering, preserving, and/or storing evidence; maintaining the integrity of evidence through appropriate collection, handling, security, and chain of custody.
  • Performing initial background and history research on individuals being investigated and controlling sensitive data/documentation.
  • Conducting interviews to gather or clarify information.
  • Writing detailed reports based on investigations or inspections.
  • Coordinating investigative efforts with federal, state, and/or local agencies.
