About The Position

The Doping Control Officer (DCO I or DCO II) is responsible for sample collection from athletes, performing tasks related to Doping Control both at events and in the out-of-competition setting. DCOs represent USADA in the field, conducting Doping Control throughout the United States under the direction of the Doping Control Operations team. The role includes local and national travel to conduct Doping Control assignments, supporting Olympic, Paralympic, and Client Services testing teams. The DCO must uphold USADA’s goals of maintaining a fair and healthy environment for all athletes. To qualify for a DCO II position, candidates must possess a valid phlebotomy credential in good standing, allowing them to draw blood.

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience in Allied Health Professions with certification and/or License (e.g., Athletic Trainer, Physical Therapist, Registered Nurse, Paramedics).
  • At least 3 years of phlebotomy experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct sample collection sessions for Olympic/Paralympic and Client Services testing teams.
  • Plan and manage doping control assignments according to WADA/International Standards and USADA criteria.
  • Execute logistics for doping control processes to ensure successful mission completion.
  • Process samples in accordance with USADA protocols and WADA Code/International Standards.
  • Recruit and onboard independent contractors to serve as Chaperones when necessary.
  • Witness sample collection or oversee the witnessing process.
  • Travel to various locations for sample collections using economical routes.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of the doping control process.
  • Ship and submit processed samples to WADA certified laboratories.
  • Assist in onboarding and training new doping control officers.
  • Participate in DCO evaluation and support programs, continuing education, and re-accreditation.
  • Maintain control of documents, records, and sample collection equipment.
  • Schedule and manage travel and associated expense reports.
  • Provide witness testimony in legal cases regarding Anti-Doping Rule Violations.
  • Enforce infection control processes during work with athletes and equipment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and report any conflicts of interest to USADA.
