Specializes in collecting blood from donors in accordance with FDA guidelines, using both traditional as well as apheresis procedures, and assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of the donor by following established standards and practices. In addition, they are responsible for component preparation, storage, and packaging following cGMP guidelines to ensure product quality, sterility and time requirements are met. Other duties may include processing phone calls, donor cancellations, therapeutic procedures and other inquiries regarding blood donations.   • Completes donor registration, interview and vital signs for prospective donors in accordance with FDA guidelines to establish eligibility for donation.
  • Performs donor whole blood and apheresis collection according to established protocol in donor room and on bloodmobile.
  • Performs therapeutic, directed and autologous blood donations in accordance to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Processes blood components as directed according to standard operating procedure.
  • Labels, transports, or stores blood units as directed in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Identifies, troubleshoots, and documents problems that may influence the quality of blood manufacturing.
  • Completes accurate documentation of component preparation, computer entry, and infectious disease test ordering.
  • Packages donor samples for transport to reference testing facility.
  • Performs maintenance tasks and quality control.
  • Maintains supplies and inventories as needed and in accordance with Lean principles.
  • Assists with the analysis, collection, and maintenance of records as needed by Quality Assurance, FDA, CAP, Joint Commission accreditation, OSHA guidelines, or as may be required by law.

  • High School or GED Equivalent
  • Technical Certificate
  • Associate's degree or technical certificate
  • 1-3 years Related phlebotomy experience plus hands-on training in apheresis blood collection
