About The Position

The position involves providing excellent customer service while conducting donor registration, donor interviews, limited physical assessments, and Whole Blood Phlebotomies. The individual will monitor donor/patient recovery and manage adverse donor reactions. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities for various equipment and supply Quality Control. The essential duties encompass treating customers with dignity and respect, performing donor registration, conducting health tests, preparing samples, interviewing donors, performing phlebotomy, monitoring collections, preparing blood units for transport, assisting with donor recovery, and conducting quality control on equipment. The position may require working at different draw locations and actively recruiting donors for various Blood Bank Programs.

Responsibilities

  • Treats customers (internal and external) with dignity and respect in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Performs general and special donor registration on computer and manually as needed.
  • Performs tests such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse and hematocrit/hemoglobin.
  • Prepares pre-donation Apheresis Sample.
  • Confidentially interviews donors regarding their medical history and current health status.
  • Performs phlebotomy for Allogeneic Whole Blood and Directed Whole Blood Collection.
  • Monitors and discontinues manual collection of donor's units in the drawing area.
  • Properly prepares blood units for transport to the Laboratory.
  • Assists with donor recovery and adverse reactions.
  • Draws specimens for donor re-test and other orders.
  • Conducts daily equipment/supply set-up and breakdown, as well as Quality Control on specified instruments.
  • Accurately completes all required documentation regarding donor, procedure, QC, and cleaning records.
  • Actively recruits donors to various Blood Bank Programs (e.g. Apheresis) and promotions (e.g. Special Events).
  • Works at different draw locations as needed.
