Donor Room Apheresis Phlebotomy Tech I & II 1. Perform all aspects of donor blood collections, included but not limited to: verifying all information of donor, drawing blood, and performing aftercare of the donor in a Mobile Unit or Donor Collection center in accordance with department policy and procedures maintaining high customer service. 2. Assist on offsite blood drives and collections sites as assigned. 3. Prepares, labels, and processes blood components and samples for testing. 4. Maintains inventory of supplies. 5. Makes recommendations for improvements in quality and/or efficiency to the immediate supervisor. 6. Perform quality control, instrument calibration, quality assurance and improvement, and development of new methodologies. 7. Consults blood bank records to answer questions, monitor activity or resolve problems of blood-donor groups. 8. Prepares reports and statistical data of platelet donor program. 9. Train individuals on collection processes and functions. 10. Maintains a list of prospective platelet donors. 11. Recruits donors for both whole blood and Apheresis collections. 12. Assists with promotions, events and incentives for the Apheresis program. 13. Maintains workbenches, testing areas and other work areas in a clean, sanitary and free of clutter condition for the safety of donors, guests, and staff. 14. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. 15. Maintains a thorough knowledge of departmental and Hospital policies and procedures as they pertain to the job, including but not limited to fire and disaster plans. 16. Performs other work related duties and activities as assigned or requested. Donor Room Apheresis Phlebotomy Tech I Job Code: 8271 Grade: S11A High School Diploma or GED. Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English. Two years as Donor Phlebotomist or one-year experience as an Apheresis Phlebotomist. Working knowledge of blood groups and Rh types and donation procedures. Basic Life Support certification (to be acquired within 6 months of position and must maintain certification). Ability to communicate effectively with donors. Nationally Certified Phlebotomist required and must maintain certification. Current Donor Phlebotomy Technician, DPT (ASCP) Certification required. Must attend first available Manufacturer Operators Training in the collection of automated Apheresis using the current platform utilized by Cape Cod Hospital and must successfully complete training within 3 months of starting the training program. Eligibility for Qualification in Apheresis, QIA (ASCP) Certification or equivalent preferred. Typing 30 wpm.
