About The Position

The Donor Relations Director (Major Gifts Officer) at The Salvation Army plays a crucial role in enhancing the fund development efforts of the Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division. This position focuses on major gift strategies, communication, and relationship management with a specific portfolio of donors and prospects. The DRD is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects, acting as the primary contact between The Salvation Army and its donors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a non-profit fundraising role with a proven record of major gifts success
  • Effective interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication abilities
  • Proven expertise in building and maintaining positive relationships with diverse individuals
  • High level of comfort with direct donor interaction, including discussions of personal and family finances and asking for money
  • Ability to work independently in a complex environment
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and conflicting priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals and meet deadlines
  • Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as experience with donor tracking and/or database software

Responsibilities

  • Establish, create, and maintain a strategic communications plan to educate, cultivate, and solicit gifts from a caseload of major donors each fiscal year.
  • Manage a caseload of 100-150 major donors, following a prescribed communications plan specific to each donor.
  • Establish and work to meet annual goals for each major donor and for the major gifts program each year.
  • Lead in one-to-one solicitation, gift acknowledgement, and stewardship communication, traveling as necessary to maintain excellent donor relations.
  • Provide written proposals to major gift prospects as needed.
  • Collaborate with other fund development officers to ensure synergy between direct mail, foundation, corporate, planned, and other major gift efforts.
  • Work closely with local corps officers and program directors to represent local resource development needs based on prospective donors' residences.
  • Help shape overall strategies to continually increase major gifts revenue and program growth, emphasizing cross-training and department collaboration.
