About The Position

The Donor Experience Specialist plays a key role in delivering an exceptional, donor-centered experience by implementing and maintaining giving programs—including, but not limited to, membership, monthly giving, employee giving, corporate matching, vehicle donations, and in-kind contributions. This role is responsible for the execution fundraising and stewardship efforts, including appeals, gifts acknowledgments, stewardship touches and donor service. They will also provide support and coordination for donor fundraising and stewardship events and attend community outreach opportunities. The heart of this position is a commitment to treating each donor like they are our only donor—ensuring every donor feels seen, appreciated, and connected to the impact of their support.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2-3 years of experience with fundraising programs and donor stewardship or similar experience.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to respond to supporters quickly and troubleshoot their problems.
  • A self-starter with a proactive mindset—able to independently create and streamline systems, move forward with directives successfully, identify opportunities, suggest improvements, and drive solutions forward.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, high-volume, multifaceted, results-oriented work environment.
  • Flexibility to frequently travel (mostly in the metro area) and work some evenings and weekends.
  • Proficient in research and relevant analysis, including navigation of databases and online resources.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to analyze issues, prioritize tasks, and make thoughtful, efficient decisions.
  • Knowledgeable about prospect research methodology, best practices, and evolving trends in fundraising.
  • Strong proficiency working in donor databases, the Microsoft program suite, and the online Google Suite tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of both Donor-Centric and Community-Centric Fundraising practices.
  • Passionate about collaborative work, but equally comfortable taking initiative and working independently without close supervision.
  • A strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices, in particular, in outdoor spaces.
  • Be solutions-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to work effectively both independently and with a team.
  • Detail-oriented and due-date -driven.
  • A passion for local conservation, environmental education, and wildlife rehabilitation.
  • A valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing the annual fundraising programs plan to grow overall supporter revenue and engagement through retention, reactivation, conversion, and acquisition strategies.
  • Steward relationships with Bird Alliance of Oregon’s members by responding to general inquiries via telephone (inbound and outbound), written communications, emails, and in person.
  • Utilize donor CRM to capture donor preferences and interactions, ensuring every communication reflects each donor’s unique interests and history.
  • Coordinate messaging, copywriting, and production of communication pieces for these giving programs.
  • Maintain consistent branding, voice, and mission alignment in donor communications.
  • Responsible for new donor/audience members’ welcome and stewardship touchpoints.
  • Work with the Associate Director of Development, Donor Experience, and the Communications and Marketing Team to execute fundraising campaigns, program materials, social media, member surveys, and other materials as needed.
  • Support and coordinate community engagement tabling and speaker programs focused on supporter acquisition and fundraising.
  • Oversee welcome center volunteers.
  • Assist the Events Manager with specific duties associated with our annual Wild Arts Festival, Birdathon, and other events as assigned.
  • Work with the development team to apply an equity lens to all aspects of our fundraising programs
  • Provide backup support to the Development Services Manager with gift processing, reporting, and acknowledgment fulfillment as needed.
