About The Position

The Center for Victims of Torture works toward a future in which torture ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. We are an international nonprofit dedicated to healing survivors of torture. We offer rehabilitation services to those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. We are headquartered in Minnesota, and we have US offices in Georgia and DC, as well as offices in Africa and the Middle East. The Center for Victims of Torture is hiring a Donor Engagement Officer to be responsible for cultivating and stewarding a portfolio of approximately 700 donors giving $500 - $4,999 annually. This position plays a pivotal role in deepening donor loyalty, driving revenue growth, and qualifying prospects for major planned giving portfolios. Through strategic outreach and relationship-building, the Officer will strengthen lifetime donor value and serve as a vital link between annual giving and major gifts. Position open to: Candidates located in the U.S. who are authorized to work in U.S. and will not need CVT to sponsor them on a work visa. Remote status: Position is fully remote. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • 3 years of development, donor relations, sales, or related experience
  • Demonstrated ability to build authentic relationships with empathy and persistence
  • Ability to balance high volume outreach with personalized engagement
  • Collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous learning
  • Competency in Raiser’s Edge (or equivalent fundraising software)
  • Ability to manage and prioritize competing tasks

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
  • Commitment to engaging in human rights work
  • Excellent skills in organization, attention to detail and time management (including the ability to meet deadlines)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word and Excel)

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Management: Segment and manage a portfolio of ~700 mid-level donors. Prioritize 150-200 donors for high-touch stewardship and solicitation. Maintain accurate contact notes and moves management activity in Raiser’s Edge. Implement upgrade strategies aligned with donor behavior and giving capacity. Partner closely with the Growth & Engagement Team on coordinating messaging around direct response projects. Collaborate with Development team to ensure smooth donor movement across portfolios.
  • Donor Outreach and Relationship-Building: Conduct 60-80+ personalized touches every month, including calls, emails, and handwritten notes. Acknowledge all gifts within 48-72 hours. Provide meaningful stewardship through impact reports, updates, and insider content. Plan and execute 1-2 personalized solicitations annually for all Tier 1-2 donors. Identify donor interests and motivations through proactive conversation. identify and qualify donors who have the interest and ability to become major donors and/or planned giving donors and refer to Director of Development. Create and maintain prospect profiles for high-potential donors.
  • Data Tracking: Maintain accurate records of all donors within the portfolio. Develop and execute mechanisms for tracking retention, upgrades, outreach and stewardship activities, referrals, and revenue performance. Provide monthly reports on portfolio insights and KPIs.
  • Special Campaign Engagement: Identify and segment mid-level donors for campaign activation and early support. Tailor messaging for the mid-level donor audience, solicit donors when appropriate, and provide continual updates.
