About The Position
The Donor Care Specialist is responsible for ensuring the satisfaction of all users of the department's services, both internal and external, in accordance with the hospital's customer service standards. This role involves performing donor screening to ensure eligibility per CCHC, CDC, FDA, AABB, and CAP standards, as well as executing all aspects of whole blood collections and therapeutic phlebotomy procedures. The specialist will conduct whole blood collections at offsite blood drives and in the donor center, prepare and label blood components and samples for testing, and maintain accurate documentation on all blood donor records and data entry, including donor deferrals. Additionally, the role includes assisting with donor recruitment, performing daily inventory and replenishment of donor care supplies, and maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment. The specialist must also have a thorough knowledge of departmental and hospital policies and procedures, including fire and disaster plans, and consistently provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
