About The Position

The Donation Sorter at The Caring Place plays a vital role in processing and managing donations to support the homeless and needy in South Florida. This position involves greeting donors, sorting and counting donated items, and maintaining an organized inventory. The Donation Sorter will also engage with the community and assist in various projects and events, contributing to the mission of transforming lives through service.

Requirements

• Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
• 1 year of experience as a merchandise sorter in a retail sales environment is preferred.
• Must be familiar with current styles, trends, and prices.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
• Must be able to work in a busy environment, under pressure, and process merchandise quickly and accurately.

Responsibilities

• Greet all donors cheerfully and thank them for their donation, explaining how it helps.
• Provide donors with their tax receipt and inform them about current campaigns.
• Sort all bric-a-brac, glassware, collectibles, dishes, antiques, small kitchen appliances, and clothing.
• Enter information on the inventory sheet along with the Gift-in-Kind (GIK) slip to be processed.
• Separate valuables for special pricing and place them in the office.
• Check the condition of merchandise for damage and decide whether to send it to the thrift store or discard it.
• Maintain a safe, neat, efficient, and orderly work and display area.
• Work alongside the Community Development team during events, including holidays.
• Assist with all projects assigned by the Community Development Manager.
• Lead and/or participate in devotions, prayers, or other ministry activities, such as outreach events.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
