About The Position

The Dolphin Communication Research Internship at Brookfield Zoo Chicago is designed to train future leaders in the fields of animal behavior and welfare. Interns will work closely with the Animal Welfare Scientist and other members of the Animal Health & Welfare team to gain comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in performing behavioral research at a zoological institution. The primary focus of this internship will be on a project that investigates the collective behavior of zoo-housed dolphins. Interns will engage in direct data analysis of dolphin behavior and vocalizations, providing them with valuable insights into the physics of sound as it relates to marine mammals. This role will also enhance the interns' scientific communication skills, culminating in a formal presentation of their research findings to relevant staff at Brookfield Zoo Chicago. This internship is an excellent opportunity for students to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting while contributing to the zoo's mission of animal welfare and education.
