Department: Dog Team Supervises: Animal Care Associates Dog Team Reports To: Dog Team Manager FLSA/Work Hours Status: Exempt, 40+ hours per week DOL Status: Full Time Base Pay Range: 52k-54k /year Our Dog Team Assistant Manager plays an important role in advancing Nevada Humane Society’s mission The Dog Team Assistant Manager will be responsible for the overall care and wellbeing of the adult dogs and puppies in the shelter, for ensuring that adult dogs and puppies are made ready for adoption in a timely manner, for the cleanliness of the shelter, and for the management of the Dog Team. The Dog Team Assistant Manager will also be responsible for actively supporting adoption efforts.

Requirements

High School graduate (or equivalent).
1+ years of experience handling animals, preferably in an animal welfare environment.
Ability to function independently, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal communication and written skills.
Ability to stay abreast of new developments in the community, especially as it relates to animal welfare.
Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
Excellent verbal, written and observational skills.
Must be goal-oriented, self-starter with a willingness and maturity to go beyond prescribed work and time schedules and meet assigned deadlines.
Possession of a valid Nevada or California Driver’s license with valid registration and insurance of personal vehicles for all positions that require driving as an essential function.
Experience in same or related position in a nonprofit setting-preferably animal welfare.
Record of continually increasing responsibilities with measurable results.
General knowledge of pet behavior and care.
Ability to work with all kinds of animals in a safe and responsible manner.
18 years of age or older.
Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines efficiently.
Staying updated on community developments, particularly in animal welfare.
High degree of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
Excellent verbal, written, and observational skills.
Self-starter with a goal-oriented mindset, willing to exceed prescribed work and time schedules to meet deadlines.
Possession of a valid Driver’s License with valid registration and insurance for personal vehicles, essential for positions requiring driving.

Responsibilities

Assist the Dog Team Manager with training Animal Care Associates and volunteers to ensure proper cleaning of the facility, proper care, and handling of the adult dogs and puppies.
Oversee and assist with the daily, thorough cleaning of dog kennels, public viewing areas, dishes, bedding, etc.
Oversee proper feeding and other animal care duties as needed, including medical treatment and providing special diets as needed.
Assisting the Dog Team Manager with budgeting.
Assist the Dog Team Manager in monitoring FAS, implementation of Focus Dog program for dogs who need extra help to be ready for adoption and giving input on best placement for individual dogs.
Ensuring the proper documentation and identification for each animal, listing them in the computer database, changing locations, updating photos, and creating individualized descriptions of the animals to help promote them for adoption both in the computer system and on kennel cards.
Ensuring that adult dogs and puppies move promptly from their initial admission process through evaluation, rehabilitation, grooming, and medical care process to the adoption floor.
Supporting Clinic in providing the treatment and care of their patients.
Supporting the Behavior and Transfer Team with transfers from Washoe County Regional Animal Services and other rescue partners.
Working with Client Services on an adjusting flow of adult dogs and puppies entering the shelter from owner surrenders.
Providing excellent customer service to potential adopters during meet and greets, dog to dog evaluations and answering questions about adoptable dogs.
Rapidly identifying problems or patient conditions (medical and behavioral) that need to be addressed and ensuring the animals receive prompt and complete care and treatment.
Assisting the Dog Team Manager with the onboarding, prescreening, and maintenance of employees on the Dog Team.
In the event of an emergency, assist with the handling and evacuation of animals located at either Nevada Humane Society campus.
Handling all animals properly and with compassion at all times, regardless of situation or circumstance.
Working with Client Services, Volunteers, and Philanthropy Teams to be sure that adult dogs and puppies get out to off-site adoption locations and are generally shown to their best advantage for on-site adoptions.
Maintain cleanliness of animal and public areas throughout the day.
Doing laundry, dishes, washing windows, sanitizing housing kennels and travel crates, cleaning and mopping public areas as needed.
Providing a healthy, safe, clean, and pleasant environment and facilities for the animals and the public.
Ensuring that each adult dog and puppy receives adequate daily attention, including all forms of enrichment; regular grooming, nail trims, toys, and play time.
Arranging transportation for animals as needed to medical appointments, off-site adoption locations, and other shelters.
Assisting the public, performing adoptions, admissions, and other tasks as needed, always in a manner which demonstrates Nevada Humane Society’s interest, care, and concern for the public and the animals we serve.
Promoting a humane and caring attitude toward all animals and to always treat all animals with respect and compassion.
Working harmoniously with staff and volunteers to ensure that all established procedures and policies of the shelter are followed.
Performing all duties in a manner which encourages attainment of Nevada Humane Society’s goals.
Treating people and animals with respect; contributing to effective teamwork; fostering good public relations beneficial to the shelter and its programs.
Work effectively as part of the management team on cross-functional programs, projects, and activities.
Overseeing other animal areas in the absence of other managers.
