About The Position

The Dog Law Enforcement Warden is responsible for enforcing the Dog Law and related statutes, ensuring compliance through inspections, investigations, and public engagement. This role requires a proactive individual who can work independently and collaboratively, addressing issues related to dog licensing, public safety, and animal welfare.

Requirements

• Two years of experience in dog law enforcement, animal control, animal welfare, or animal science work; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
• Ability to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Enforce all aspects of the Dog Law and relevant statutes.
• Inspect dogs to verify licensing status according to the State Dog Law.
• Investigate reports of dogs running at large and ensure their safe transport.
• Address incidents of dog bites by placing quarantines on involved dogs.
• Conduct investigations into claims of damage to livestock or poultry caused by dogs.
• Investigate suspected illegal transportation or euthanasia of dogs.
• Monitor out-of-state dealers and handle public complaints regarding illegal kennels.
• Conduct unannounced inspections of kennels seeking licensure and provide guidance on best practices.
• Observe dogs for signs of illness and consult with the Dog Law Veterinarian when necessary.
• Conduct audits of facilities claiming reimbursement for humane disposal of stray dogs.
