About The Position

This position involves enforcing the Dog Law and related statutes, ensuring compliance through inspections and investigations. The role requires excellent customer service skills, effective communication, and proficiency with technology, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in dog law enforcement, animal control, animal welfare, or animal science work; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce all aspects of the Dog Law and relevant statutes.
  • Inspect dogs to verify licensing status according to the State Dog Law.
  • Investigate reports of dogs running at large and apprehend those animals.
  • Address incidents of dog bites by placing quarantines on involved dogs.
  • Conduct investigations into claims of damage to livestock or poultry caused by dogs and prepare detailed reports for potential compensation.
  • Investigate suspected illegal transportation or euthanasia of dogs and monitor out-of-state dealers.
  • Handle public complaints regarding illegal kennels and violations of the State Dog Law, conducting investigations and compiling reports for supervisory review.
  • Research unlicensed kennels through online searches and follow-ups on consumer complaints.
  • Perform unannounced inspections of kennels seeking licensure to ensure compliance with the Dog Law Statute.
  • Provide guidance on best practices to kennel operators to promote adherence to the law and humane treatment of animals.
  • Observe dogs for signs of illness and consult with the Dog Law Veterinarian or notify a Humane Society Police Officer when necessary.
  • Conduct audits of facilities claiming reimbursement for the humane disposal of stray dogs.
