About The Position

The Area Supervisor administers all aspects of the State Vocational Rehabilitation Program within one of seven Areas composed of multiple unit offices located throughout the assigned service area. Assures that eligibility determination and service delivery are consistent with federal and state rules and regulations. Assists in the formulation of VR policy relevant to service delivery statewide and at the local level. Interprets applicable laws, rules and policies for staff throughout the Area. Assists in the planning and development of legislative budget issues. This is a vocational rehabilitation adminstrative position requiring advanced programmatic specialization. The area supervisor is responsible for and spends the majority of time supervising vocational rehabilitation supervisors and vocational rehabilitation consultants and for effecting a wide range of support services to the area vocational rehabilitation program in accordance with Federal and Stat laws, rules and regulations and area procedures in order that individuals with disabilities may attain or maintain employment. This associate is invoved in the hiring, disciplinary actions and promotion of associates in the cost centers supervised. The incumbent of this position will access client information, produce correspondence, and perform other automated functions within the scope of the position's responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the theories and practices of vocational rehabilitation counseling.
  • Knowledge of professional ethics relating to rehabilitation counseling.

  • Bachelor’s degree plus not less than 3 years of paid or unpaid experience consisting of: direct work with individuals with disabilities in a setting such as an independent living center direct service for advocacy activities that provide such individual with experience and skills in working with individuals with disabilities direct experience as an employer direct experience as a small business owner or operator direct experience in self employment experience in human resources experience in recruitment experience in supervising employees experience in training experience in other activities that provide experience in competitive integrated employment environments

Responsibilities

  • Assures the provision of quality vocational services to people with disabilities through the supervision, training and evaluation of Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisros and Vocational Rehabilitation Consultants. Assures that units meet required expectations.
  • Monitors the delivery of vocational rehabilitation services in the area via case reviews, program monitoring, on-site visits, individual and group conferences, data analysis and trend analysis. Provides supervision by planning workloads, work flows, establishing time lines and constructive feedback to associates to assure quality employment outcomes in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Collaborates with community partners and customers to improve services, and develops strategies for better customer satisfaction and quality employment outcomes including contractual relationships.
  • Ensures effective and efficient use of State and Federal financial resources to deliver customer sevices resulting in employment outcomes. Meet customer service budgetary needs through effective allocation and/or monitoring of funds, and identifies and develops community resources, comparable benefits and other cost saving mechanisms.
  • Meets with associates on a regular basis, assists with team building, associate development, and organization development and growth. Participates in Area Quality Assurance activities. Manages the human resources and operational aspects of assigned cost centers. Ensures compliance with Federal, State and Departmental directives through appropriate recommendations. Interprets policies, procedures, and laws to associates and to internal and external customers.
