The University of Rochester is seeking a dedicated individual to join the Health Information Management team as a Medical Records Technician. This role involves transferring paper and virtual documents into an electronic medical record (EMR) system, ensuring accuracy and quality in the documentation process. The technician will work independently with minimal supervision, contributing to the integrity of patient records and supporting the overall mission of the university to foster a culture of equity and inclusion.

  • Transfer paper and virtual documents into an electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Prepare, scan, and index medical record documents prior to placement into the EMR.
  • Perform quality checks on documents before submission to the EMR.
  • Analyze and resolve issues with missing information on documents.
  • Batch documents in proper order for prioritization using document types and tracking dates.
  • Communicate with providers and office personnel for proper documentation and verification.
  • Ensure proper image quality when scanning documents using imaging software.
  • Index each medical record document using defined data elements.
  • Review scanned documents for accuracy and completeness before final submission.
  • Prepare, retain, and summarize data, records, and reports.
  • High School education and 1-2 years relevant experience required.
  • Associate's degree in Medical, Secretarial or related field preferred.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and medical terminology.
  • Experience with software systems such as Flowcast, eRecord, OnBase, HBOC.
  • Competitive compensation range of $17.00 - $22.10 per hour.
  • Full-time position with 40 scheduled weekly hours.
