About The Position

The Doctoral Fellow provides expert psychiatric consultation to treatment teams at The Children’s Center of Hamden and delivers psychiatric services to children and adolescents enrolled in clinical treatment programs. This position operates in partnership with the Yale Fellowship Program. The Doctoral Fellow reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer and collaborates closely with clinical staff to support comprehensive, individualized care.

Requirements

  • Strong diagnostic, clinical, and supervisory skills.
  • Understands the impact of trauma on youth development and the dynamics that can result for our population and their families.
  • Able to work effectively with traumatized youth and youth on the autism spectrum, as well as members of the multidisciplinary treatment teams.
  • MD or DO required.
  • Must be board-certified or board-eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Maintenance of all related certifications and licenses within the State of Connecticut including Physician License and Controlled Substance Registration, and Federal DEA Registration.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts routine psychiatric evaluations and provides treatment, including pharmacotherapy, tailored to the needs of children and adolescents.
  • Reviews and monitors individual treatment plans and levels of care to ensure appropriate and effective interventions.
  • Accurately documents psychiatric assessments, treatment recommendations, and interventions in compliance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Documents treatment recommendations, including discharge planning, to support continuity of care.
  • Provides psychiatric consultation and supervision to the treatment team, offering guidance on clinical decision-making and treatment strategies.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, including clinical rounds, medication reviews, and treatment team meetings, contributing expertise to collaborative care planning.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of child and adolescent growth and development and applies this understanding to clinical practice.
  • Demonstrates competence in the assessment and treatment of adolescent substance use disorders.
  • Provides supervision to psychiatry trainees and APRNs, as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Provides coverage for colleagues during vacation or other absences, ensuring continuity of psychiatric services.
  • Participates in agency after-hours phone on-call coverage.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and awareness in the delivery of psychiatric care, respecting the diverse backgrounds of the patient population.
  • Adheres to HIPAA regulations and The Children’s Center of Hamden policies regarding the security, confidentiality, and privacy of protected health information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer to support the mission of the organization.
  • Regularly review and renew all necessary certifications while completing mandatory training to remain in compliance with organizational and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintains appropriate personal boundaries with young people and families served at The Children’s Center of Hamden, in accordance with the agency’s Boundary Code of Ethics.
  • Maintains awareness of The Children’s Center of Hamden’s Policy and Procedure Manuals and accesses relevant information as needed to guide decision-making and ensure compliance.
