About The Position

Promotes patients’ continued well-being through providing direct psychological services promoting optimal individual, interpersonal, and social functioning. Under the direction of supervisors, conducts psychological testing and assessment. Participates as a member of treatment team for assigned programs of work. Conducts ongoing clinical research in their field of study, and participates in any organization research as indicated.

Requirements

Clinical expertise in psychotherapeutic processes, crisis intervention, skills in working with individuals and families undergoing acute episodes of psychiatric distress; skills in diagnosis and assessment
Knowledge of and ability to adhere to the professional code of ethics and the state mental health code.
Ability to work as part of a comprehensive mental health team and to represent the agency in the community.
Excellent organizational skills and administrative abilities
Doctoral candidate in psychology, in good standing, from an APA accredited program
Has been selected as part of the APPIC match process

Responsibilities

Provide direct clinical care to patients in order to promote change according to the patient’s treatment plan.
Establish a therapeutic relationship when indicated on treatment plan to address clinical and psychosocial issues relevant to the patient’s illness and promotes change according to treatment goals, and to provide support and resolve specific task oriented problems that may have an impact on treatment.
Meet with patients in educational, activity, and/or psychotherapeutic group sessions to promote, through the group process, individual growth according to treatment goals.
Complete assessments/evaluations of patient in their social context, family needs within the scope of program under direction of supervisor
Utilize research and best practice information to inform psychological interventions
Work with patient’s outpatient providers and referral sources to obtain additional information, collaborate on treatment planning, and begin the formulation of continuing care needs and plans.
Attend and participate in treatment planning sessions of assigned patients on a regular basis. Reports consistently to the treatment team with regard to assessments and the content and focus of patient progress and engagement.
Document all interactions with patients in progress notes in the electronic medical record.
Become familiar with relevant community support systems, health care and human service resources, courts and police, etc.
Assess patient and family’s needs with regard to discharge plan, and will, under direction of supervisor, coordinate and implement all aspects of the patient’s discharge plan
Support all program policies and procedures related to patient care
Participate in the program’s therapeutic milieu in order to promote integrity of the milieu and the quality of care.
Attend and participate in supervision sessions, as well as all trainings and case conferences as assigned
Demonstrate the ability to integrate theoretical knowledge of clinical practice, group dynamics and psychopathology effectively and ethically in treatment.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
Synthesize and conveys relevant information orally and in writing.
Demonstrate good organizational and time management skills and ability to work in a fast paced setting.
Adhere to the Brattleboro Retreat’s code of ethics, standards for service delivery, policies and procedures as well as the State of Vermont mental health code.
Demonstrate adherence to professional standards and values according to American Psychology Association (APA) Code of Ethics or other professional Codes of Ethics to assure the provision of ethical care.
