About The Position

The Dockhand's primary responsibility is to the safety and security of Sarasota Yacht Club Members, their vessels, and the assets of the Club. Additional responsibilities include: § Maintain a marine environment that is second to none within the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs and the greater Sarasota marine market. § Provide an excellent level of service to all Members and their guests as well as all visiting yachtsmen. § Work closely with the Marina Manager and the General Manager to ensure that all marine facilities are well equipped to meet the current standards of safety. § Above all, aggressively enforce all legal and moral protocols of environmental protection.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Be able to effectively communicate English, both orally and in writing.
Have a working knowledge of marine services and customer service fundamentals.
Have a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office products Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Be able to work outside for up to 8 hours per day.
Be able to reach, bend, stoop, twist, pull, push, crawl, climb, and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Must have the stamina to work up to 40 or more hours per week.

Responsibilities

Be familiar with all Club rules pertaining to marina activities.
Arrive each day at 8:00 AM. Upon arrival, Dockhands will be assigned equipment, such as a cell phone or VHF radio, and duties for the day.
Respond to all radio calls hailing Sarasota Yacht Club and be prepared to receive incoming vessels at all times.
Check each vessel moored at the Club to determine if any obvious problems may exist or if any unauthorized persons are present.
Examine the dock infrastructure early each day and report any damage or items for repair.
Assist all Members and visiting yachtsmen with mooring, electrical hookups, and pump-out services.
Allow Members access to the fuel dock. However, Members must pump their own fuel. Watch over Members as they pump fuel and be prepared to take action if a spill or other emergency arises.
Record all fuel purchases and complete daily fuel reports. Maintain fuel sales in an Excel spreadsheet.
Measure the level of fuel held in the on-site tanks and update all appropriate reports and spreadsheets.
Order fuel purchases and update fuel prices as directed by the Marina Manager.
Order and deliver newspapers to all Members and visiting yachtsmen who are overnighting on their vessels.
Check out any boats that have departed by completing the short term dockage agreement kept on the slotted box on the wall.
Check the reservations book for the day’s activity. Log the reservations for the day and delegate slip assignments. Ensure that the reservations are correct and that all paperwork has been completed.
Check that all visitors to the dock have a purpose for being there. Be sure that all outside vendors and workers check-in at the Dock Office and provide proof of insurance.
Provide billing information to Accounting for slip rental, electricity usage, fuel sales, visitor rentals, etc.
Create a welcoming environment for all Members, guests, and visitors, ensuring that they have the greatest Marina experience ever.
