About The Position

The Docket Specialist supports the Court Services Department by providing comprehensive litigation calendaring services in accordance with the firm’s calendaring procedures and processes. This role is responsible for researching and calculating court-related deadlines to ensure compliance with applicable rules of procedure, including local court rules and state and federal civil procedures. The Docket Specialist enters deadlines into the firm’s calendaring management system, CompuLaw, and prepares deadline reports from MyView or CompuLaw upon request. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the setup and maintenance of accounts for electronic filing and service platforms such as PACER, Case Anywhere, File & ServeXpress, and other court-approved systems. The position also involves supporting court services-related projects and acting as a liaison between attorneys and the courts. The Docket Specialist answers questions from attorneys and staff regarding calendaring procedures and court rules to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of litigation docketing experience using CompuLaw or calendaring system.
  • Knowledge and ability to research of multi-state rules of civil procedure, federal rules of procedure, local rules, judges rules and agency rules.
  • Know how to research court websites for both State and Federal courts.
  • Use Online filing platforms (CM/ECF and other third party vendors).
  • Bachelor’s Degree or minimum of 5 years Law Firm work experience required.
  • Computer proficient with familiarity of various database systems including, Outlook, Internet Explorer and MS Word, preferred.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to budget time efficiently while handling multiple tasks.
  • Must demonstrate accuracy when calculating deadlines and entering due dates and the ability to research rules when needed.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with personnel in a responsible and respectful manner.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze information.
  • Must be a self-starter; able to work in a fast-paced environment; and exercise independent judgment in performing all aspects of the assignments.
  • Must be flexible with time and ability to do overtime when needed or requested.

Responsibilities

  • Provide litigation docket support to all MTO offices.
  • Log and process all calendar requests as assigned using docketing software, CompuLaw Vision and Dynamics.
  • Calendar all State, Federal and Agency court deadlines.
  • Provide weekly and customized calendar reports.
  • Create and update deadlines and trial calendars for new and existing client/matters.
  • Respond to and work with case teams to ensure docket entries are accurate and meet their practice needs.
  • If needed, conduct weekly calendar meetings with attorneys or paralegals to review upcoming calendar.

  • Follow departmental best practice procedures and assist with implementing solutions to mitigate future issues when applicable.
  • Research court rules when needed using applicable tools: Court website, Smart Rules, WestLaw, Rutter’s Guide.
  • Assist in the investigation of docket/calendaring concerns and respond to inquiries regarding work product.
  • Adhere to other duties as assigned.
