About The Position

The position involves reporting to the Operations Manager, Assistant Terminal Manager, and/or Terminal Manager Lead. The role includes guiding and directing dock employees, setting targets, monitoring performance, and providing coaching, counseling, and development. The individual will be accountable for managing an efficient, clean, and safe LTL operation, which includes dock planning and scheduling. Compliance with company policies, safety rules, and government regulations is essential. The role also involves participating in hiring and termination processes, administering portions of the Terminal Business plan, and meeting all assigned KPIs. Daily utilization of company enhancement tools and processes is required, along with reviewing and revising schedules to increase efficiencies and lower costs. The position includes responsibilities for equipment assignment and movement, ensuring proper communication with customers, and overseeing all paperwork associated with the dock.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of the LTL trucking industry and basic paperwork flow preferred.
  • Prior management, dispatch, and dock experience required, preferably in LTL trucking.
  • Knowledge of the local metropolitan area.
  • Strong leadership skills including hiring, coaching, counseling, training, mentoring, and terminating employees.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organization skills.
  • Good computer skills (AS/400 & MS Office a plus).
  • Strong work ethic and good problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work an average of 50 hours/week.
  • Ability to work any shift including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to lift approximately 20 lbs or more as required.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and direct dock employees, setting targets and monitoring performance.

  • Participate in hiring and termination processes.
  • Administer assigned portions of the Terminal Business plan.
  • Meet all assigned KPIs.
  • Utilize company enhancement tools and processes daily.
  • Review and revise schedules to increase efficiencies and lower costs.
  • Manage equipment assignment and movement in collaboration with other supervisors.
  • Ensure proper communication with customers via phone, fax, or email.
  • Oversee all paperwork associated with the dock.
