About The Position

The Dockhand position is responsible for ensuring the overall safety of the dock and aiding in the safety of all coworkers. This includes informing the Supervisor of any unsafe or hazardous conditions on the dock, reporting hazardous conditions, and making corrections when possible. Dockhands are also expected to perform routine housekeeping duties, participate in drills and safety meetings, and learn to perform assigned duties in emergency situations. Knowledge of when and how to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is essential. The role may require assisting other teams at EMS as needed.

Requirements

  • Basic reading, writing, and computer skills sufficient to complete periodic online training.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT Drug Test.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall safety of the dock.
  • Aiding in the safety of all coworkers.
  • Informing the Supervisor of any unsafe or hazardous conditions on the dock.
  • Reporting any and all hazardous or unsafe conditions and making corrections when able.
  • Performing routine housekeeping duties - ability to clean-as-you-go is a must.
  • Participating in all drills and safety meetings.
  • Learning and performing assigned duties in emergency situations.
  • Learning when to use PPE and knowing the right type(s) to use for any task.
  • Performing any duties required by the Supervisor of the dock.
