Working directly with fishermen and vessel captains including VHF radio communications as needed, weighing fish, documenting the fish purchased on tally sheets and/or fish tickets, offloading boats, and the handling and storage of fresh fish. This is a physical job that requires moving up and down ladders, shoveling ice, removing/replacing lids of insulated totes, and working long shifts outdoors. Employees must work calmly and efficiently in order to move as much fish as possible while maintaining product quality. Employees will be working with wild salmon, so there is a natural level of unpredictability as to the timing and numbers of fish purchased/recorded/offloaded. The job requires working as a team to be ready to buy and move fish during all fishing periods. The work environment is weather dependent: ranging from warm and sunny to cold, windy and wet. Working outdoors in a remote environment is not an experience for everyone, and candidates should understand their own limitations. People who struggle with mobility should consider employment in another department or a different industry.
