The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) is seeking a motivated and collaborative attorney to join its legal team. This full-time position involves representing the Department in various legal matters, including legislation, environmental health and safety, and regulatory compliance. Requirements

• Possession of a license to practice law in the State of Illinois.
• Three (3) years of professional experience in the practice of law.

Nice To Haves

• At least four (4) years of civil litigation experience handling federal, state, or administrative proceedings.
• At least four (4) years of experience drafting legal memoranda, briefs, or pleadings.
• At least two (2) years of professional experience working with laws, policies, or regulations for a corrections agency.
• At least two (2) years of experience managing attorneys and support staff.
• At least two (2) years of experience developing litigation strategy, settlement, and appeal posture in significant civil actions.
• At least four (4) years of experience conducting legal research.
• At least two (2) years of experience working in a large agency or organization (500 or more employees).
• At least two (2) years of experience in handling constitutional or administrative law.
• At least two (2) years of professional experience working with legislation.
• At least two (2) years of experience utilizing Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Provides legal analysis and input regarding legislation and administrative rules.
• Provides a full range of legal services on matters related to environmental, health, safety, and general regulatory services.
• Coordinates specialized legal matters with the Office of the Attorney General, including handling litigation in assigned cases.
• Conducts complex technical research for administrative officials of the Department.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.
