About The Position

The Office Assistant position at the Illinois Department of Corrections is focused on providing essential support in the facility mailroom. Requirements

  • Completion of high school and one (1) year of related office experience.
  • Ability to keyboard 35 words per minute.

  • One (1) year of experience operating common office equipment such as multi-line phone systems, copiers, fax machines, and scanners.
  • One (1) year of experience troubleshooting common office equipment such as copiers, fax machines, and scanners.
  • One (1) year of experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Outlook or similar programs for word processing and email.
  • One (1) year of experience communicating with the public about rules and guidelines to achieve appropriate outcomes.
  • One (1) year of experience reading, interpreting, and applying organizational rules and guidelines.
  • One (1) year of experience using basic mathematics in the workplace.
  • One (1) year of experience applying U.S. Postal Service regulations.
  • One (1) year of experience weighing and computing proper postage for delivery to the Post Office.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the daily processing of incoming and outgoing mail according to U.S. Postal Service regulations.
  • Maintain permanent records for each individual in custody's incoming mail concerning monies received.
  • Operate common office equipment such as word processing terminals, postal machines, and copy machines.
  • Keyboards memos relating to mail room processes and procedures, proofreading documents for clarity, punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the position.
