About the position

The Spacecraft Operations Technician position at Northrop Grumman is part of the Military Internship Program (DoD SkillBridge), designed for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience. This role involves supporting satellite operations during launch and early orbit phases, as well as long-term operations, while providing on-the-job training in a dynamic environment. The position emphasizes professional development and aims to prepare interns for potential full-time opportunities within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Test and perform on-console activities involving satellite operations during launch and early orbit support or long-term operations.
  • Plan, set up, and configure ground communication support, develop, validate, and execute pass plans; monitor and review telemetry, advising leads and/or management of failures and degradation.
  • Establish voice, messaging, and data communications for multiple satellite programs of varying priorities and classifications.
  • Configure and monitor displays for computer and network equipment during normal mission operations.
  • Troubleshoot end-to-end communication issues.
  • Coordinate and schedule multi-program operations using COTS software tools.
  • Determine any anomalous conditions and provide corrective actions as required.
  • Generate downtime reports and other associated documentation for operational outages.
  • Support various operations status, engineering review, and problem boards.
  • Identify areas of concern, issues, inefficiencies, and recommend solutions.

Requirements

  • 2 years of relevant experience with a completed High School diploma or equivalent; or 0 years of relevant experience with a completed Associate's degree or higher for Level 2.
  • 4 years of relevant experience with a completed High School diploma or equivalent; or 2 years of relevant experience with a completed Associate's degree; or 0 years of relevant experience with a completed Bachelor's degree for Level 3.
  • Must have an Active TS/SCI DoD security clearance AND an adjudicated Polygraph.
  • Experience conducting satellite operations with the Satellite Control Network in a real-time operations environment.
  • Experience monitoring the activities of satellites.
  • Familiarity with satellite ground systems, including hardware, software, and communications architecture.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiar with UNIX and Windows-based computer systems.
  • Ability to create and follow standard processes and document results.
  • Able to distinguish the difference between colors on a computer monitor.
