About The Position

Amentum is currently seeking a DNA Examiner based in Forest Park, GA. This position will help support exploitation missions both CONUS (Continental United States) and OCONUS (Outside Continental United States) via deployment. Examine evidence in consultation with firearms and latent print analysts (as needed) to ensure the proposed collection approach will not negatively impact collection of other forensic data from the evidence. Ensure proper chain of custody is maintained. Collect potential DNA samples from evidence using approved procedures designed to minimize the possibility of sample contamination. All samples shall be properly packaged, marked, and stored in preparation for extraction. Use photographic equipment to capture still images of each evidence item and relevant key portions of the evidence item, or other exhibits, to support further analysis, conclusions, and documentation. Generate STR DNA profiles from evidence and reference samples. Analyze and interpret data using probabilistic genotyping software. Annotate the case file documentation and generate reports, detailing the processing techniques and the examination results. Perform administrative and/or technical reviews of reports and worksheets. Perform instrument maintenance.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience working in a forensic laboratory performing DNA analysis on criminal evidence and/or intelligence exploitation.
  • A bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or forensic related field with coursework in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, statistics and/or population genetics.
  • A master’s degree in biology, chemistry, or forensic related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
  • Experience must include the following: Identification of bodily fluids such as blood, ability to extract DNA using automated platforms, generation of STR and Y-STR DNA profiles via standard and direct amplification, experience with mixture interpretation using probabilistic genotyping software, experience with submission of DNA profiles to databases, and experience in technical and administrative case file reviews.
  • Able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance. (Please note: US citizenship is required to obtain a US Secret security clearance).
  • Must be able to obtain a US passport.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a medical assessment per customer requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supporting the Forensic Exploitation Department (FXD) is highly preferred
