About The Position

The DME Specialist is responsible for the assessment of patients' needs specific
to durable medical equipment. Working primarily with orthopedic and neurology
patient populations, the DME Specialist will ensure patients are provided the
appropriate product for the diagnosis, the product is fitted appropriately and
the patient is educated in the requirements of the product to maximize recovery
for each patient.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or Kinesiology required.
• CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.
• Must maintain valid Illinois driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment of appropriate product specific to patients’ diagnosis, proper fitting, patient education on application, use, care and expected outcome for products as indicated by the physician and product manufacturers.
• Educate patients on insurance plans and provisions, financial responsibility, and collection of patient portion.
• Ensure all necessary documentation and authorization is obtained to meet requirements of compliance.
• Demonstrate appropriate delegation of duties, judgment, safety, initiative and flexibility in scheduling, organizational skills, and appropriate time management.
• Track, maintain, and order inventory for primary location.
• Collaborate with Supervisor to coordinate coverage and scheduling of others working in DME.
• Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedure.
• Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
• Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.
