The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives, creating safer communities, and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of DJS Youth Transportation Officer Trainee , so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS! This position is the entry level of work transporting and escorting youth who have been detained or placed in a facility operated by the Department of Juvenile Services. This position supervises, guides, directs, and organizes youth, while maintaining safety and security, care, custody, and program continuity in accordance with established DJS policies and facility procedures. Employees in this classification will perform duties under close supervision. This position provides direct care coverage over a continuum of shifts. This position will provide detention room supervision, crisis intervention counseling, court security/escorting of juveniles, and transport juveniles in the care of the Department of Juvenile Services. To ensure safe and timely transport of juveniles from institutions, courts, group homes, shelter care facilities, airports, hospitals, mental institutions, and other facilities within the State of Maryland and surrounding states in conjunction with court schedules, appointment times, etc. Important: Please note that this position requires rotating shifts and mandatory overtime. Employees must also be available to work during emergency situations. A work shift from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm is required for some facility work locations.
