About The Position

The Divisional Controller will lead the division’s accounting and finance team across multiple business entities; the maintenance of a system of accounting records; the design, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive controls; consistent and timely reporting of monthly results and metrics; and forecasting/budgeting for the division. Ideal candidates will have a proven accounting background in the construction/service industry and experience in percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting. Additionally, candidates will possess superior management skills, and proven ability to build and develop customer service-oriented accounting and administrative teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA license.
  • Big 4 experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a Supervisory or Leadership capacity.
  • 3+ years of construction or service industry experience.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, especially in the application of percentage of completion accounting and compliance under ASC 606.
  • Demonstrated process improvement accomplishments.
  • Experience in conducting the month-end close process, which includes the preparation of journal entries, reconciling various balance sheet accounts including intercompany reconciliations, maintaining the fixed assets module, financial analysis, and reporting.
  • Proficient knowledge in the areas of Payroll, AR, AP, Project Accounting, Inventory, Cash Flow management and forecasting, and a solid understanding of Percentage of Completion accounting.
  • Comfortable interacting with a variety of skill levels with a demonstrated ability to lead through influence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite with strong Excel skills, and ability to use typical business tools including ERP systems.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational/prioritization and time management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task with close attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure & meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, technical, and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the monthly close process, ensuring timely completion and accuracy of account reconciliations and journal entries in compliance with US GAAP.
  • Drive standardization in accounting policies and practices.
  • Ensure revenue is properly recognized under, and complies with, the requirements in FASB ASC 606.
  • Ensure project accounting and Percentage of Completion schedules are complete, accurate and updated timely.
  • Lead the implementation of accounting and process changes by providing training, documentation, and support to local accounting teams.
  • Manage the external audit process for the division.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements on a timely basis.
  • Prepare financial reports and track against budgets and forecasts.
  • Collect, consolidate, and analyze financial data. Support management in analyzing financial results and delivering monthly management discussion & analysis reports.
  • Oversee the division’s billing, credit & collections, accounts payable, cash disbursements, inventory, fixed assets, payroll, general & project accounting for the division.
  • Assist in the preparation of weekly, monthly and quarterly cash forecasts, including analysis of receipts and disbursements and variance analysis.
  • Provide financial analysis to evaluate projects, programs, capital expenditures, project margin, etc. when necessary.
  • Coordinate transition of any new acquired entities toward successful integration into CoolSys with both Director of Operations Integration, Director of Accounting Integration and any outside advisors.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements.
  • Oversee the division’s accounting teams to guide financial decisions, establish, monitor, and enforce accounting policies and procedures, and maintain a system of controls.
  • Develop accounting and financial staff through coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Interface with customers and vendors to create alliances for best practices in daily operations.
