About The Position

The Division Chief Executive (CE) for the North Division is accountable for strategy, growth, integration, operations, and financial results. The leader is a key member of the senior leadership team for the health system and participates in both strategic and operational decision making to accomplish the key priorities and objectives of the organization. The CE selects and evaluates service area chief executives and other divisional executives consistent with the goals and Mission of Providence. They will lead the continued progression of the Division to fully realize the potential of an integrated delivery system, combining an appetite for innovation with effective change management. This executive will represent the Division with local, state-wide, and national legislative, regulatory, business and community groups. This executive will understand and uphold the unique identity of Catholic healthcare. This executive will model, protect and promote the Mission, vision, and values of the organization.

Requirements

  • Ten or more years of executive leadership experience in a large, complex integrated delivery system
  • Ideally overseeing multiple elements of the organization, including a combination of multiple hospitals, physician groups/networks, health plans, and/or other services across the continuum of care.

  • Inspires the organization around its common mission and values while also celebrating its distinctive heritages.
  • Weaves social accountability, community orientation and stewardship principles into sound business practices.
  • Promotes an environment of hope, healing and hospitality with their words and actions.
  • External relations experience
  • Serving as the public face of an organization, developing relationships with business and community leaders, and enlisting their support in philanthropy.
  • Significant background in working through local, system, divisional stakeholders to accomplish objectives
  • Experience with value-based reimbursement models
  • Including overseeing or partnering closely with a health plan, accountable care organization and/or clinically integrated network.
  • Engagement and leadership in public policy/advocacy
  • Supports the development, spread and sustainability of Health Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity that will help reduce health disparities and increase equitable health access for the communities served
  • Experience leading in a competitive market
  • Experience developing and/or managing partnerships
  • Experience working with physicians in multiple practice models
  • With a track record of partnering effectively with both employed and independent physicians.
  • P&L oversight of at least $1 billion
  • Master's degree or equivalent clinical degree required
  • In health or hospital administration, business administration or a related management or clinical field.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees strategic planning, operations, capital planning, marketing, and communications for the Division.
  • Oversees financial performance of the Division.
  • Ensures annual divisional operating and capital budgets are aligned with health system strategic objectives and guidelines.
  • Monitors financial reports to ensure compliance with budgets.
  • Furthers the development of the integrated delivery system to improve the health status of the communities served.
  • Provides direction and coordination to Providence operations and services to ensure integration and focus on the marketplace and the needs of the communities served.
  • Holds team accountable for achieving plans and performance targets; works with them to identify and resolve issues affecting operations and provides them with counsel, guidance, and direction, as appropriate.
  • Participates with other division chief executives and senior leaders as a member of the Executive Council for system-wide operational and strategic oversight, policies and decision making.
  • Collaborates with other CEs to improve quality and efficiency in clinical care.
  • Supports the development and optimal deployment of strategic clinical service lines across the division.
  • Is an engaged and supportive partner with Shared Service leaders across the health system to operate very effectively in a matrixed and collaborative model.
  • Participates and engages with the Regional Boards and directly interacts with the chairs of these boards to assist with governance responsibilities across the Division.
  • As needed, participates, and engages with local ministry governing boards.
  • Participates on foundation board(s) and provides a favorable presence with individual and corporate donors.
  • Maintains effective relationships with external constituents in the states and nationally to further the objectives and success of Providence.
  • Plays a key role in defining and pursuing legislative and public advocacy efforts.
  • Represents Providence in the division with outside public and private groups and organizations.
  • Builds strong and collegial relationships with system leadership.
  • Appreciate the necessity of inter-professional, team-based care, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and other caregivers.
  • Promotes the Mission and values of Providence throughout the organization and with all affiliated organizations.
  • Nurtures relationship and participates in activities as part of Catholic healthcare identity including ethical discernments, meetings with local Catholic church leaders, supporting spiritual care, etc.
  • Commits to personal and vocational development through formation programs as a distinctive offering within Catholic healthcare
