Kids in the Game provides unforgettable day camp experiences for hundreds of New York children across Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and now Westchester & Jersey City! When you join the Kids in the Game summer camp leadership cohort, you’ll be part of a dynamic team of Camp Directors, Assistant Directors, and 275+ coaches running outstanding programming at our 13 summer day camps. THE KIDS IN THE GAME SUMMER CAMP EXPERIENCE Kids in the Game camps are where sports, creativity, and community come together to shape confident, compassionate, and connected kids. Every summer, our camps across New York City, Westchester & Jersey City bring together diverse groups of children to explore new sports, build friendships, develop positive social skills, and learn how to be part of a team. Our camps offer kids a uniquely designed blend of sports and games, arts and crafts, STEM enrichment, field trips, swim activities, theme weeks, and all-camp special events to make every week the highlight of a child's summer. Each day is fueled by energy, laughter, and belonging. Our team of camp leaders, specialists, and counselors create an environment where every child feels seen, supported, and inspired to try something new. We’re looking for Division Leaders who want to be positive role models, build emotional intelligence, boost confidence, create inclusive communities, and help bring high-quality camp experiences to kids across NYC, Westchester and Jersey City.. Your Leadership Can Change the Game — Join Kids in the Game This Summer. DIVISION LEADER ROLE & KEY TASKS As a Division Leader, you report to the Camp Director and Assistant Directors and serve as a key on-site leader for both campers and staff. You oversee a division of 3–4 camper groups (approximately 10–15 campers per group) and directly support 6–8 counselors. This role is highly active and hands-on, requiring you to be present throughout the camp day, support smooth transitions, and help ensure each group in your division is safe, organized, and engaged. You are responsible for supporting daily operations within your division, including camper supervision, group management, and real-time problem solving. You help address camper needs, manage behavior with empathy, and maintain a positive and structured environment where campers feel supported and confident. By staying visible and approachable, you play an important role in shaping the daily camper experience and reinforcing camp routines and expectations. You also serve as a primary coach and mentor to counselors in your division, providing guidance on group leadership, camper engagement, and communication strategies. Working closely with the Camp Director and Assistant Directors, you help align your division with overall camp goals, support special events and off-site supervision, and model Kids in the Game’s core values through your leadership, teamwork, and commitment to an inclusive and joyful camp culture.

Requirements

  • A candidate who is truly Amazing with children!
  • You must pass a NY State run background check
  • Possess at least 2+ years of experience working with campers required; experience leading recreation programs/activities; experience leading groups of varying sizes
  • Possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, participants, parents and caregivers
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively and in a timely fashion with participants, families and caregivers, both verbally and non-verbally
  • Demonstrates practical problem solving skills in a variety of situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Being DOE or DOH fingerprinted is a plus
  • Up to date Physical and TB test documentation will be required before starting
  • Possessing knowledge of another language on top of English is a plus
  • Being CPR, First Aid and AED certified is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily camper supervision, behavior support, and group transitions within your division.
  • Address camper concerns and conflicts proactively, using youth development best practices.
  • Maintain daily notes and communicate camper updates to Assistant Directors and Camp Directors as needed.
  • Foster a team-oriented, respectful environment among campers and staff.
  • Serve as a primary supervisor for your division on off-site trips in collaboration with the Off-Site Assistant Director.
  • Assist Assistant Directors with the execution of weekly themes, special events, and division-level activities.
  • Support activity setup, transitions, and modifications as needed.
  • Collaborate with camp leadership to ensure smooth daily schedules and special programming days.
  • Develop and lead “Team Time” games and division-based bonding activities.
  • Uphold all Kids in the Game safety policies, DOH regulations, and supervision standards.
  • Monitor camper and staff safety during on-site and off-site activities.
  • Immediately communicate any health, safety, or behavioral concerns to camp leadership — no issue is too small.
  • Support emergency procedures, incident response, and documentation when needed.
