About The Position

A large healthcare laboratory services organization supporting multiple hospital systems is seeking an experienced Division Laboratory Director to oversee laboratory operations across a regional division based in Nashville, Tennessee. This senior leadership role is responsible for strategic oversight of laboratory operations, operational assessments, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and service line development across multiple facilities. The ideal candidate brings strong multi-site laboratory leadership experience, expertise in healthcare financial and operational management, and the ability to collaborate effectively with hospital executives, physicians, and service line leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science
  • Background as a Medical Technologist (MT/MLS)
  • Minimum 5+ years recent leadership experience in laboratory management, consulting, or director-level laboratory operations
  • Multi-site laboratory leadership experience on a regional or national level
  • Clinical laboratory experience in hospital or large healthcare laboratory environments
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare systems management, laboratory operations, and financial management

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • Experience managing large regional laboratory networks
  • Experience leading strategic operational improvements across multiple hospital laboratories

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for laboratory operations across multiple hospitals and laboratory facilities
  • Coordinate with service line leadership to assess operational performance and implement improvement strategies
  • Lead operational assessments including process improvement, utilization analysis, and operational model development
  • Manage division laboratory activities including operational planning, financial analysis, and budgeting
  • Oversee laboratory quality programs and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards
  • Develop and implement laboratory test menus, equipment platform strategies, and service line initiatives
  • Optimize regional laboratory coordination and centralization strategies
  • Ensure adherence to group purchasing and vendor contract agreements
  • Evaluate reference laboratory utilization and outreach program profitability
  • Ensure accurate billing compliance and charge capture processes
  • Collaborate with physicians, hospital executives, supply chain, IT leadership, and medical directors
  • Present operational findings and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholder groups
  • Monitor financial performance, identify operational variances, and recommend corrective action
  • Lead development and mentorship of laboratory directors and leadership teams across the division
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory and legislative changes affecting laboratory services
  • Communicate regularly with executive leadership regarding operational performance and strategic initiatives
