About the position

The Division Director for Information and Intelligent Systems (IIS) in the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) is a senior executive role responsible for overseeing research and education activities related to information technology and intelligent systems. The director serves as the principal spokesperson for IIS, leading strategic planning, policy development, and resource allocation to meet organizational goals. This position requires strong leadership, managerial oversight, and the ability to foster partnerships across various sectors.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a member of the leadership team for CISE and principal spokesperson for IIS.
• Direct the activities of the Division of Information and Intelligent Systems.
• Assess needs and trends in the field of information and intelligent systems.
• Develop breakthrough opportunities and implement strategic planning.
• Steer policy and oversee the evaluation of proposals and recommendations for awards.
• Supervise and provide leadership to senior IIS staff and program officers.
• Determine funding requirements and prepare budget estimates.
• Foster partnerships with other NSF divisions, Federal agencies, and the academic community.

Requirements

• Must meet the five Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs).
• Substantial contributions to research and education in computer and information science and engineering.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant academic research and education community.

Nice-to-haves

• Ph.D. in computer and information science and engineering or a related field is strongly preferred.
