About The Position

The LEIDOS Corporation is seeking a Diver responsible for performing diving and dive related support including but not limited to scientific, O&M, inspection and other projects as needed for the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). This position is for a month long deployment to Palmer Station to support station infrastructure maintenance and inspection. This role is a seasonal role, and will only offer employment during the Antarctic deployment period. As such, deployment to Antarctica is required, and is expected to be approximately 1 month. The candidate in the position must complete the physical and dental examinations required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. Due to contract requirements, US Citizenship is required. Must obtain a Public Trust security clearance prior to start date. This process could take up to 4 months.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of four years of commercial and/or scientific diving experience.
  • Diversified skills in underwater construction/salvage or scientific diving work.
  • Familiarity with all types of diving equipment and underwater construction tools, materials, and techniques.
  • Dry suit experience required including a minimum of 25 dry suit dives and 10 within 12 months of the date of hire.
  • Cold-water diving equipment maintenance skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in high latitude or polar waters preferred.
  • Experience with McMurdo or Palmer station diving operations preferred.
  • Visual tank inspection, SCUBA and Commercial diving equipment maintenance certification/experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct dives in support of ASC managed diving projects in Antarctica.
  • Prepare diving equipment and conduct dives in accordance with OSHA, ASC, and USAP approved diving regulations.
  • Perform underwater construction and maintenance tasks in accordance with above regulations.
  • Conduct footing/piling placement, pipeline assembly, underwater welding, inspection and related O&M work.
  • Perform underwater salvage work when feasible and within the limits of the above regulations.
  • Cleanup of debris as part of NSF approved environmental protection programs.
  • Perform underwater collections of scientific samples, video, photography, documenting of underwater conditions and observations for science projects.
  • Tend the dives of co-workers as required, and in accordance with ASC field procedures.
  • Advise the Supervisor, Dive Services on job progress, material requirements, and personnel matters.
  • Perform other duties as required.
