About The Position

The Speech, Language and Hearing Specialist plans and implements an effective speech/language therapy program for children with communication disorders. This position is essential in providing support to students with speech impairments and ensuring they receive the necessary therapy to improve their communication skills.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Speech/Language Therapy or Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
• Type A, B, C, or Ancillary Louisiana Teaching Certificate.
• Louisiana License.
• Additional criteria as the Board may require.

Responsibilities

• Conducts or participates in procedures for screening, evaluation, and placement in programs and dismissal/exit out of programs for speech impaired students.
• Participates as a member of the School Building Level Screening Committee to assist and guide members in observing, describing and referring students.
• Designs a program that meets the individual needs of students by developing an appropriate Individualized Education Program (IEP).
• Conducts ESY screening procedures, completes appropriate paperwork, and maintains documentation.
• Completes all reports and paperwork accurately and within prescribed timelines.
• Utilizes therapy techniques that implement IEP objectives and are consistent with the needs and capabilities of individual students.
• Collaborates with classroom teachers and other staff members to implement therapy procedures.
• Sends progress reports with report cards.
• Attends parish speech therapy meetings and faculty meetings.
• Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and school board policies.
• Participates in professional growth and development programs.
• Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers.
• Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service and work processes.
• Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments.
• Performs other services as required.
